Tagging
Tagging is an art term in the field of digital archiving and Document Management. It describes the capture of tags and metadata into documents. Tagging has to be done manually by the user in most Document Management Systems. Enterprise systems such as bitfarm-Archiv, that provide a high level of automation, can read tags and metadata from a document according to a set of rules. This automatic tagging relieves the user by having recurring standard tasks done by the computer system.
When planning a Document Management System it is important to find out which tags and metadata are necessary and useful for which document category. The rule is: as little as possible, but as much as necessary. bitfarm-Archiv DMS Enterprise-Edition, for instance, uses the best text recognition (OCR) currently available, which makes tagging superfluous in many cases.
